Cycling City York has come up with the perfect solution for women who’d like to combine a little gentle exercise and socialising with a spot of retail therapy – a series of new Cycle Chic (TM) guided cycle rides.

Inspired by the world famous original Copehagen Cycle Chic, the events are the latest addition to Cycling City York’s extensive programme of free, guided cycle rides. The new, autumn timetable is out now and features guided rides to suit everyone, including families and those who want to get off-road on their mountain bikes.

For the first time, a series of Cycle Chic (TM) rides has been devised to encourage more women to give cycling a try. These rides will be led by female cycle leaders and the first was a trip to the Designer Outlet near York, which took place on Sunday November 7. The second will be a visit to a Christmas Market on Sunday 5 December.

Loretta Spyers-Ashby, cycling activity officer, said: “We’re really keen to introduce more women to the benefits of cycling. We’ve tried to come up with guided rides that will enable women to get out and socialise together and, at the same time, get some exercise and fresh air, and boost their confidence in their cycling abilities. We’ve selected fun destinations that will hopefully appeal to women and have included a period of free time as part of the rides so that they will have chance to go and grab a coffee or do a spot of shopping before making the journey back.

“As always, the autumn guided rides timetable features a wide selection of rides for people of all ages and abilities, including a number of events ideal for families and a programme of away day rides at Dalby Forest for those who want to develop their off-road cycling skills on trails running through the heart of the forest.”

All of the guided rides are free of charge and they cater for differing levels of ability. Most include a stop off for refreshments.

Copies of the new guided ride timetable are available from libraries, leisure centres and City of York Council reception points. You can also find details on the Cycling City York website at:www.cyclingcityyork.org.uk
