Hi Paul,

Well if that's your goal then you're right - you shouldn't bother with the spreadsheet. In that case my suggestion would be to look at the strategic planning tool - www.sportengland.org/segments, and see which segments in their 30s or 40s live near to your bowls club. Maybe within a 2 mile radius. Then look at the communication plans for those segments and see how best to market to them, what marketing messages are going to work, and which media to use to reach them.

That would be my suggestion, anyway.

Hope that helps,

John

It's a good tool, but as someone who plays bowls, I want to get more people in 30s and 40s involved. Percentages tell me it's not worth trying! But we will...

Hi John

I wouldn't mind buying your book - do you have a hard copy at all? I can't purchase via the website being a local authority. If you send an invoice with the book I can pay it - include postage and packing as well! Thank you for sending the emails through to me - I've found them all very useful.

Thanks
Kath

Just had an update from Rich, and he says that over the summer they were receiving 12 inquiries a week for these taster sessions. And 75% of those attended. So over 4 months that would be about 200 inquiries and 150 people taking up taster sessions.

He says it's slowed down a bit now that the summer's over though.

Update from Daniel Kemp on their Facebook page since this post.

There’s definitely been a drop in the number of new likes to our page [since the ads stopped]. This improved slightly recently when I created a dedicated landing page (which is what I should have done when we were advertising, in hindsight). It now very clearly tells people to like us, and thanks to some code-jiggery-pokery which took me ages to get working, it even tells you how many of your friends are following us!
