Which photos can you use?

As you might know, on promotingactivity.com we have a library of photos for you to use. Over 3000 photos in fact. I get asked sometimes which ones you can use, whether you can use them for free and whether you need to give attribution tot he photographer. They’re all free. And if you need to give attribution to the photographer then the photographer’s name will already be in the photo (just don’t edit it out).

We did a survey many months ago into what photos you wanted. You let us know. And now they’re available. Over 1000 of them.

We’ve got people from a huge range of ethnic groups, ages, sports and activities. All of them are available for anyone to use for promoting activity of any kind. We’ve got the model release forms filled in for every one of them.

On top of that we’ve simplified lots of the keywords, to make it easier to find just the image you’re after.

We know that these photos are really helpful to people in fitness, sport and activity, so please let us as many people know about this as possible – the main link to the photo site is http://promotingactivity.smugmug.com.

800 free walking photos

Natural England have just put over 800 photos on their website for schemes to use for free to promote healthy walking.

Their image library is free, and original photos can be downloaded and used for promotiing healthy walking. Just make sure you credit © Natural England / Walking for Health / Paul Glendell and take a look at the Creative Commons Licence.

These photos were taken during 2009 by photographer Paul Glendell. They cover a range of health walks from across the country, spanning all the seasons. They’ve organised the library by region, they’ve also grouped some of the best photos into categories:

Woodland walks
Urban walks
Walk leaders
Buggy walks
Not walking?!

You can rate each photo, and leave a comment if you wish.

One of the keys to running a good campaign and increasing participation is to use good photos in your marketing materials

We’ve just uploaded an extra 300 photos to www.promotingactivity.com. These photos are all available under Creative Commons Licence – this means that someone has taken the photo, and made it available to anyone to use as long as they give attribution to the photographer. To help with giving attribution we’ve already added the photographers name to the bottom right of all these images.

Do you know of a Tai-Chi group in the North West of England?

Our photo shoot is going great guns at the moment, and in the next couple of months you’ll have access to 1000 brand new photos. People have been great at providing us with contacts for good activity groups already.

We now need to find a tai-chi group in the North West of England who have a mix of ages taking part. We’ve already got photos of 30-something, white, middle class people doing Tai Chi, but we’re really looking for some older people, or non-white people or younger people taking part. If you know of any groups who fit that description in the North West of England then please email our photographer – Jon Parker Lee (office@jonparkerlee.com) or me (john@makesportfun.com).

Of course – if you run any other activity group in the North West, and you’d like us to come and run a photo shoot for you (free of charge) then get in touch as well.

We’ve already built a photo library of over 1500 images which can be used for free by anyone promoting activity to the public. (photos.promotingactivity.com/)

We’ve got funding from the Department of Health to organise another photo shoot and we want to make sure that we add images which are helpful to the most people. We know there are gaps, so we want your help to find which of those gaps need filling the most urgently.
